The adjacent ends of the discharge vessel (5) open into a base body (1) which consists of an upper part (2) and a lower part (3) and on whose lower region a base (9) is mounted. A ballast and starting device (8), which is arranged on a mounting plate (7), is provided inside the base body (1). Contact pins (14), which engage in corresponding sockets (15) which are integrally formed on the upper part (2), are incorporated in the mounting plate (7) for the electrical connection of the upper part (2) to the lower part (3). The sockets (15) are provided with a slot (17) which is tangential to a blind hole and into which the power supply leads (19) of the discharge vessel (5) are inserted. When the upper part (2) and lower part (3) are joined together, the contact pins (14) are pressed into the sockets (15) and at the same time clamp the power supply leads (19) (which are arranged in the slots (17), of the discharge vessel (5) firmly such that they make electrical contact. <IMAGE>
