The vertically operating pleasure ride on a roundabout essentially comprises a horizontal main rotary shaft which is mounted above the ground by means of a support, a driving motor for the main rotary shaft, and a radially projecting arm which is arranged on the main rotary shaft in a rotationally rigid manner and on the free end of which a second rotary shaft with a driving motor is horizontally mounted. A radially projecting car arm is arranged on the second rotary shaft in a rotationally rigid manner. A rotatable, horizontal rotary shaft of the car is mounted on the free end of the car arm, the car being rotatably suspended on the said shaft. The car of the roundabout may describe a plurality of different resultant trajectories in the vertical plane. This is brought about by the two arms with their rotary drives, the said arms operating separately. If the arm and the car arm are fixed in relation to one another, the roundabout can execute the known, tried and tested modes of operation, such as that of the big wheel and the looping-the-loop swing, with additional blocking of the rotary shaft of the car.
