A boltless two-piece rail fastening assembly (10) for securing a railway rail (14), supported on a conventional tie plate (12), to a wooden cross tie (20) is comprised of a chair (50) and a rail clip (30) latched thereon. The chair (50) includes a body (52) having a jaw (72) with a bight configured to receive the clip (30), and at least one downwardly projecting leg or shank (58, 80) for securing the chair (50) adjacent the base flange (18) of the rail (14).The rail clip (30) is a torsional spring clip in the general form of an "S" having a rail-bearing leg (34) for proximate engagement with the base flange (18) of the rail (14) and a tie bearing leg (36) for proximate engagement with the tie plate (12). |
