Carbonate polymer comprised of the reaction products of: (i) at least one dihydric phenol; (ii) a carbonate precursor; and (iii) an optical property improving amount of at least one cyclic anhydride represented by the general formula <IMAGE> wherein: X represents a divalent nonaromatic cyclic hydrocarbon radical; R is independently selected from monovalent hydrocarbon radicals; and n is a positive integer having a value of from 0 up to the number of replaceable hydrogen atoms present on X.
