<p>PURPOSE:To obtain the titled compd. useful as a raw material for perfumes or photosensitive resins in good yield, by reacting styrene with CO, an alcohol and O2 in the presence of a specific catalyst under mild reaction conditions. CONSTITUTION:Styrene, CO, an alcohol such as methanol and O2 are reacted in the presence of a catalyst at room temp. - 200 deg.C for 0.01-10hr under normal pressure - 500kg/cm<2>G total reaction pressure to obtain the aimed compd. The catalyst consists of a platinum family metal or its compound, e.g. PdCl2, as the first component, copper or iron compound, e.g. cuprous chloride, as the second component and compounds of at least one or more metals selected from Groups 4A and 7A, iron family of Group 8A, and Groups 1B and 2B in the periodic table as the third component. The partial pressure of CO ranges normal pressure - 50kg/cm<2>G, and the partial pressure of O2 is selected from the range for the composition of the mixed gas in the reaction system beyond the explosion region. EFFECT:Due to a high activity of the catalyst and a high reaction rate, the titled compd. can be advantageously manufactured.</p> |
