Aq. soln. of 3,3-bis(p-hydroxyphenyl) phthalide, i.e., phenolphthalein used as a remedy for inflammatory skin disease and indicator in titration of inog. acid. org. acid, or alkali, is prepd. from phenolphthalein, sodium bicarbonate, and water by mixing them to produce the wetted paste, by heating the paste up to the temp. less than b.p. to evap. the moist. content, by grinding the dehydrated mixt. and by dissolving the power in water.
