The coupling or branching consists in cutting the sheet metal forming the pipe 1, 2 at the envisaged portion for coupling or branching 3', 4', so as to bare the internal sheathing 3, 4, and in applying, after cleaning the said envisaged zone 3', 4', a coating 7 of products ensuring a mechanical link and sealing of the work. With an existing main, cutting is performed by pneumatic chipping of the sheet metal tube with a cutting tool, such as a chisel, forged so that the cutting chips move outwards during the operation without leaving any lateral flash and without cutting or injuring the inner sheathing. <IMAGE>
