Device allowing simple and rapid opening of mail or other envelopes, of any format, in total safety. A thread or cord 1 is previously bonded inside and along the fold 2 of the flap 3 of the envelope, and exceeds it by several centimetres, acting as a fuse 4. The initial design of the envelope is not changed, and the latter is sealed normally. For opening, the user pulls on the fuse 4, this distinctly and cleanly tears the paper along the fold 2 of the flap. The fuse may be left free, or stuck to the walls of the envelope, thus avoiding any risk of accidental opening. The thickness and strength of the thread 1 are a function of the manufacturing quality of the envelope. The fuse 4 and the thread 1 may, for reasons of convenience, be stuck on the inner left, right or bottom folds of the envelope. The device described hereinabove suits all sorts of envelopes, all formats, all shapes, all thicknesses and all materials. <IMAGE>
