The invention relates to optics. The method which is the subject of the invention is of the type consisting in stimulating the Raman effect in a sample 2, in forming the spectral distribution of the light scattered in the focal plane of a spectral decomposition device, in converting this distribution into electrical pulses corresponding to the separable parts conforming to the resolution of the spectral distribution, in digitally processing the electrical pulses, and is characterised in that the conversion of the spectral distribution into electrical pulses is done by forming the electronic image of the analysed part of the spectral distribution, followed by a slit analysis of this image in the scattering direction. The invention can be used in particular in spectroscopy for measuring the position, shape and intensity of spectral lines. <IMAGE>
