PURPOSE:To detect run-out of an ink without examining the residual amount of the ink through detaching a cover of a printer, by providing a head with a reflector through a position-detecting plate, and providing a carriage with a detector. CONSTITUTION:A part of the position-detecting plate 16 is extended so that it can be seen through a guide hole 30 provided on the carriage side of an ink cartridge casing 17, and the reflector 20 is provided at the extended part. The carriage 24 is provided with a reflection-type photosensor 27 at such a position as to face the reflector 20 when a thin-film bellows 15 is contracted due to run-out of the ink, and an alarm lamp is turned ON when light reflected by the reflector 20 is detected. |
