PURPOSE:To measure the extent of wear of a magnetic head chip with an easy operation without requiring special measuring tools by forming conductors on both side faces of the end part in the tape sliding face side of the magnetic head chip and measuring the electric capacity between these conductors. CONSTITUTION:A tape siding face 3c of a magnetic head chip 3 is worn because a rotary cylinder to which the magnetic head chip 3 is attached is rotated in a high speed to slide the magnetic head chip 3 on a magnetic tape. Since conductor layers 8a and 8b formed on both faces of the chip 3 are worn simultaneously, the electric capacity of the chip 3 consisting of a single crystal ferrite of a dielectric in a part held between conductor layers 8a and 8b is changed. A certain voltage is applied to conductor layers 8a and 8b on front and rear faces and the change of the voltage between them is measured to detect this change of the electric capacity. On a basis of this change of the electric capacity, the extend of wear of the chip 3 is detected in accordance with preliminarily measured data. Thus, the extent of wear of the chip is measured with the easy operation without requiring special measuring tools. |
