PURPOSE:To prepare quartz glass having high purity equaling quartz inexpensively by gelating a soln. of ammonium silicate and vitrifying the gelled product by heating. CONSTITUTION:(i) Ammonium silicate soln. is prepd. by ion-exchange of a silicate soln. (e.g. aq. soln. of sodium metasilicate) using an NH<+>4 type cation exchange resin (pref. by a column method). (ii) Then, the solvent and ammonia are gradually evaporated and removed from the soln. to concentrate the soln. and to cause gelation. (iii) The product is heated gradually, and held at highest at ca.300-1,500 deg.C to complete vitrification. |
