METHOD FOR FORCIBLY OPENINBG NOZZLE FOR CONTINOUOS CASTING

PURPOSE:To open the clogged point of an immersion nozzle without the splash of a molten steel and the injury of tundish refractories by pushing a freely bendable pipe through a guide pipe into the clogged point from the discharge port of the immersion nozzle after lowering the molten metal level in a mold then injecting oxygen therethrough. CONSTITUTION:The molten steel level 10 in the mold 5 is lowered to expose the discharge port 7 of the immersion nozzle 4. The top end of the guide pipe 9 is then inserted into the port 7 and the pipe 9 is supported. The freely bendable pipe 8 is inserted into the pipe 9 and the pipe 8 is pushed into the nozzle 4. The top end of the pipe 8 is pushed in until the top end thereof arrives at the point of a sliding nozzle 2 clogged with a base metal 6. Oxygen is then injected through the pipe 8 to the clogged point to melt the base metal 6, thereby opening the nozzle 2.
