PURPOSE:To decrease the number of pieces of support rolls and to accelerate cooling through wire nets to which tension is exerted by bringing said wire nets into face contact with the billet and moving the same in the conveying direction of the billet while supporting the billet. CONSTITUTION:The internally unsolidified billet W cast by a continuous casting machine is sandwiched between both wire net loops 3 and 3 of a device B for supporting and conveying the billet and is supported and conveyed toward an arrow (a) direction. Cooling water is ejected from cooling water ejecting nozzles 6 and the billet W is cooled during this time. Since the wire nets are in face contact with the billet W in this stage, the secondary cooling is accelerated coupled with the cooling effect through the wire nets themselves. The support rolls 5 are provided at large intervals to the extent of reinforcing the loops 3 and therefore the attitude and disposition of the nozzles 6 are settable to the condition of good efficiency and the higher cooling effect is obtainable.
