PURPOSE:To retrieve a proper index picture corresponding to a picture by inputting a retrieval command at the retrieval of the picture, displaying plural related index pictures, and when detecting a required picture, inputting a picture access request. CONSTITUTION:At the retrieval of a picture, a retrieval command is inputted from an input device 14, and while referring a file control table in a magnetic disc 19-1, a CPU17 reads out 16 index pictures, writes the pictures in a picture memory 12 and displays the pictures on a display device 13. If a required picture is not included in the 16 index pictures, retrieval is continued by pre- and post-retrieval commands, and when the required index picture is detected, a pointing device 16 is moved, a cursor/pointer is set up within the frame of the corresponding index picture on the device 13 and a function key on the device 16 is depressed. The CPU17 detects that the index picture indicated by the cursor at present is requested to be retrieved, reads out the corresponding original picture data from an optical disc device 19-3 while referring the control table, and displays the read-out result on the display device 13. |
