Polyacrylonitrile with improved dye- - affinity

Dye affinity of polyacrylonitrile (produced by polymerising the monomer in DMS in an ionising field) is increased by adding 2 cc of an aqs-soln. of a protein (albumin or gelatine) to the 65% converted reaction mixture and continuing the reaction till a copolymer of mol. wt. of 65 000 is obtained. The method is cheaper and simpler than previous ones and the polymer can be dyed immediately with basic, acidic or dispersion dyes.
