PURPOSE:To improve the return path effect by constituting the return path part of a vertical head so that its face brought into contact with a medium is close to a main magnetic pole and surrounds the main magnetic pole. CONSTITUTION:Nonmagnetic members 10 and 10' of auxiliary members 7 and 7; prevent return path parts 8b and 8b' from being connected directly magnetically to a main magnetic pole 6 and auxiliary magnetic pole parts 8a and 8a'. Especially, return path parts 8b and 8b' of auxiliary members face directly the recording medium side to form medium contacting faces, and medium contacting face sides are extended in the direction of the main magnetic pole 6 to surround the main magnetic pole. Thus, return path parts 8b and 8b; can pick up sufficiently a magnetic flux from the main magnetic pole 6 with a narrow spacing between the main magnetic pole and the medium not only in the medium carrying direction but also in the track direction, and the return path effect is improved. |
