According to the solutions hitherto available, obtaining variable valve timings for the purpose of adjustment to the requirements of the charge cycle flow conditions in the various operating states is achieved at very high design cost or insufficient adaptability to the requirements. According to the invention, this is achieved by a controlled or regulated sensing of two cams with the extreme valve timing phase lengths (and positions), which act on a valve, by means of two sensing systems (double tappet or two valve rocker levers), in that the relative kinematics of the two sensing systems and to the camshaft are so controlled or regulated that it is possible to switch smoothly to and fro between the two cams with any intermediate phase lengths (positions) according to the requirement of the current operating situation. |
