A device on exhaust pipes of vehicle engines is demonstrated, which allows bypassing of the silencer provided with means of exhaust emission control and thereby also permits operation of the vehicle when unleaded fuel is unavailable. For this purpose a forked pipe section is arranged in the exhaust pipe and a device for diverting the exhaust gas either to an exhaust pipe leading to a silencer with emission control device or to a silencer without emission control device.
