For the periodic cleaning of oil leakage sensors which are arranged in bodies of water, for example trenches surrounding oil storage tanks, a device provided for this purpose possesses a nozzle arranged next to such a sensor under water. At periodic intervals, pressurized liquid and/or gas is ejected through the nozzle to clean the sensor.
