Fibre optical sensor

The fibre optical sensor is particularly suitable for measuring gravitational forces and exhibits an inert mass which acts on at least one optical fibre, and at least one optoelectrical detector for converting position changes of the optical fibre into corresponding electrical signals. The optical fibre is constructed as a loop (2, 3) which is connected with a part (2.1, 3.1) of its circumference to a housing (4) and to the freely movable part (2.2, 3.2) with the inert mass (6), which is opposite to this part (2.1, 3.1). Changes in optical wavelength due to bending of the loop (2, 3) are measured by means of an interferometer (7, 8) and an optical reference fibre (9, 10) which is permanently connected to the housing (4). <IMAGE>
