The invention relates to an absorbent for the dry removal of sulphur dioxide and other pollutants from the flue gases of boiler furnaces, in particular of power station boiler furnaces, which is predominantly composed of a fine particulate, inorganic alkaline earth metal compound, in particular a calcium compound and/or magnesium compound and, furthermore, of an additive. In order to create an absorbent of the abovementioned type, which is distinguished by high activity, or expressed by other means, by a high efficiency of absorption and does not have an additional polluting action on the environment, according to the invention it is proposed that the additive used is hydrogen peroxide. To slake the calcium oxide to form calcium hydroxide, an aqueous solution of hydrogen peroxide is used.
