An apparatus for carrying away condensate from a steam-heated rotatable drying cylinder has a condensate suction tube which rotates with the drying cylinder and has a suction mouthpiece on the inner surface of the cylinder shell. From the region of the axis of rotation of the drying cylinder there extends a steam blow line into the interior of the suction mouthpiece. The mouth located there of the steam blow line is arranged with as little distance as possible from the inner surface of the cylinder shell and is aligned towards the condensate suction tube.
