An input time signal and clock pulses are fed to a logic circuit from which the clock pulses are output for a time period which corresponds to the duration of the input time signal, and the output clock pulses are fed to a time-counting device. The time-counting device is set for each measurement by a control device to a time which corresponds to a maximum value at least of one time interval to be measured, and generates a validity signal for a time period between the minimum value, referred to the start of delivery of the clock pulses, and the maximum value of the time interval to be measured. A decision device decides whether a validity signal is present at the end of the input time signal, and only if the input time signal terminates in the course of the duration of the validity signal is the duration thereof used as a valid value by the measuring device.
