PURPOSE:To enhance sensitivity, to reduce residual potential, to prevent these characteristics from change due to repeated uses, and to enhance durability by incorporating a specified azo compd. in a photosensitive layer. CONSTITUTION:The photosensitive layer formed on a conductive substrate contains an azo compd. represented by formula I: Cp1-N=N-A-N=N-Cp2 in which A is a divalent residue having C combining both N forming azo group; Cp1 and Cp2 are each different, and at least Cp1 is a group represented by formula II in which Z is an atomic group necessary for forming an aromatic hydrocarbon ring or hetero ring or unsatd. monocyclic hydrocarbon ring; and R is an aryl group having 1 or 2 CF3 groups. Such a compd. is used for the photoconductor constituting the photosensitive layer of the photosensitive body, or only as the excellent carrier generating material of a so-called functionally separated type photosensitive body using two separate materials of this azo compd. for generating carriers and another material for transferring them, thus permitting the physical film properties to be improved, electrostatic charge retentivity and sensitivity to be enhanced, residual potential to be reduced, and stability to heat and light to be stabilized. |
