PURPOSE:To attain to inexpensively enhance space resolving power without increasing the number of photomultiplier tubes, by optically coupling scintillators (SL) of a large number of adjacently arranged ones to a plurality of photomultiplier tubes at every definite number. CONSTITUTION:A large number of SLs 1 are arranged in a ring shape so as to be adjacent to each other and a definite number of SLs 1 are respectively optically coupled to a plurality of PMs 5. When the peak of the output pulse of each PM5 enters a high level window, it is detected by a peak discriminator 7 and, when a low level window, said peak is detected by a peak discriminator 8. Between the SLs 1 [e.g., (a), (b)] coupled to the same PM5, a light stroke is absent by a shield plate 2 and, between SLs 1 [e.g., (b), (c)] coupled to adjacent PMs 5, the light stroke is generated by a coupling surface 3. Hereupon, by a combination of the output of the peak discriminator 7 connected to PM5 (e.g., A) and that of the peak discriminator 8 connected to adjacent PM5 (e.g., B), SL, to which radiation was incident, is discriminated.
