METHOD FOR DIRECT PROCESSING TOOL-STEEL CUTOFF INTO HOT-FORMING TOOLS OF INCREASED CAPACITY

The tool steel scrap obtd. after vacuum metallurgy treatment contains (%w/w): 0.15-0.40 C, 0.115-0.50 Mn, 0.20-0.40 Si, 2-3.2 Cr, 0.2-0.6V, 2-3.5 Mo, 4-5 W. The oxide scrap and the graphite scrap are mixed in a ratio 1:2.5-3 and the mixt. is melted in a vacuum induction furnace. The process is cheap and simple and it permits utilisation of tool steel scrap in high performance hot shaped tools.
