CONTROL METHOD OF QUANTITY OF LIGHT

PURPOSE:To control the quantity of light to be switched by shifting the transmission axis or absorption axis of a polarizer while holding transmission or absorption axes of the polarizer and an analyzer arranged across ferroelectric liquid crystal at a constant angle. CONSTITUTION:While the transmission or absorption axes P1 and P2 or A1 and A2 of the polarizer and analyzer arranged across the ferroelectric liquid crystal in a bistable state are held at the constant angle, the transmission or absorption axes P1 and P2 of said polarizer are shifted from the state wherein they are nearly made coincident with axes of liquid crystal molecules arrayed in the 1st state to control the quantity of light to be switched.
