The apts. has a batch feeder for carrying batches of paper sheets. Each batch is banded with a wrapping band. A batch-takeout device takes out batches of notes from the feeder one by one. A band cutting section holds the other side portion of the wrapping band while bending the batch in one direction. One side portion of the band is cut while the batch is bent in the other direction. The band cutting section includes a pair of squeezers for holding the unbanded portions of the paper sheets in the thickness direction. The squeezers are reciprocated by a driving device in the thickness direction.
