The invention relates to electromagnetic pumps. The electromagnetic pump forming the subject of the invention is of the type including, placed inside a body 1, an open magnetic circuit 10 whose yoke surrounds a straight duct 2 for transporting an electrically conducting fluid, and which is arranged parallel to the poles of the magnetic circuit 10, and means ensuring the passage of an electric current through the electrically conducting fluid along a direction perpendicular to the axis of the duct, and is characterised in that the magnetic circuit 10 is composed of two parts of generally U shape, the ends 12 of which are conjugate, each of the pairs of these conjugate ends forming a corresponding pole of the magnetic circuit 10, the lower segments 11 of these U-shaped parts being arranged at an angle with respect to the plane of conjugation of the said ends 12, being oriented in mutually opposite directions and outwards with respect to the duct 2 for transporting the electrically conducting fluid, and forming the yoke of the magnetic circuit 10. The electromagnetic pumps find applications in industry in particular for pumping various electrically conducting liquids. <IMAGE>
