Neutral phosphobetaines, their preparation and their application to the assisted recovery of oil

New surface-active compounds of the neutral phosphobetaines group, their preparation and their use are described. The products under consideration correspond to the general formula: <IMAGE> in which R represents a monovalent hydrocarbon radical or a secondary amide group, R1 and R2 are each a monovalent hydrocarbon radical, R3 is a divalent organic group comprising a linear chain consisting of carbon atoms, optionally interrupted by 1 to 3 oxygen atoms, and optionally comprising methyl or hydroxyl substituants, the whole unit containing 3 to 12 atoms in a linear chain, and R4 is a basically hydrocarbon monovalent group. The neutral phosphobetaines under consideration are advantageously used in the assisted recovery of oil, for forming micellar systems consisting of aqueous solutions and microemulsions. <IMAGE>
