This is a vertically adjustable table or shelf construction having at least two parallel and interconnected vertical columns (1, 2) as legs. The vertical columns (1, 2) each have an outer part (4) at the bottom and an inner part (5) which is guided in said outer part so as to be longitudinally displaceable in a telescopic manner and is fixed at the desired height relative to the outer part. The outer part (4) has longitudinal slots along at least one side. Along its side adjacent to the side (7) of the outer part with the longitudinal slots, the inner part (5) has a row of holes (10) which is exposed through the slot (8) of the side of the outer part and in whose holes supports (11), which project from the vertical column in the attached state, or other holding or additional devices for a table top or shelf or for any other additional parts can be hooked releasably. <IMAGE>
