PURPOSE:To prevent jamming of paper by comparing the time until the front edge of an ejected document is sensed with the reference time set up according to the length of the document in the transport direction therefor so as to detect real paper jamming, thus eliminating any chance of erroneous jam sensing caused by the difference in a document size. CONSTITUTION:As soon as the work starts, a document D1 is transported on a document support 4. During this period, a document size sensor S1 senses the length of the document, in terms of the time required for passing of the document and transmits the result to a control CPU which calculates, then, the reference time on the basis of the signal given from the sensor S1 and stores it in its RAM unit. Next, when the transport of document D1 is completed, a conveyor belt starts its reverse turn to switch the document which hits a stopper 5 to be set. Then, an optical system scans its surface to perform the process of transfer. When this transfer process is completed, rollers 2, 2' are actuated to start discharge of the document D1. After a certain time interval, a roller 3 is started in its operation to feed in the subsequent document D2. At this moment, if discharge of document D1 is delayed due to some reason, and time count reaches the reference time with no signal transmitted from sensor S$2, rollers 2, 2' and 3 are stopped in operation and warning is given simultaneously by means of a warning light, a buzzer etc. |
