Device for holding the picks and for controlling the spray-medium feed to the picks in a cutting head for a heading machine, with a fastening component set up for welding to the cutting head, a pick-shank mounting into which the shank of the pick can be inserted with the pick head exposed, a control valve with control plungers, and at least one spray-medium discharge nozzle on the fastening component. The fastening component has spray passages which are run from the cutting head to the spray-medium discharge nozzle and are controlled by the control valve. The control plunger can be actuated by a pick tilting movement caused by cutting reaction, and the tilting movement can be returned by a restoring spring. The pick-shank mounting is made as a bore in the fastening component, and the pick shank is inserted with tilting play into this bore in the fastening component. A ball socket is attached to the bore of the fastening component at its margin on the pick-head side. The pick shank can be inserted with a ball-and-socket joint component into the ball socket and can also be tilted against a surrounding annular restoring-spring element and can be restored by the latter. <IMAGE>
