The swimming fin consists of in each case one fin blade having a corresponding holder, e.g. foot, which fin blade has a prescribed ratio (aspect ratio) of span width across the swimming direction to the mean length in the swimming direction. According to the invention, the fin blade is designed in the form of a hydrofoil of large aspect ratio and high stiffness, and has a streamlined hydrofoil profile with control, independent of the hydrofoil profile, of the angle of pitch of the fin blade during the fin stroke. <IMAGE>
