PURPOSE:To obtain a flexible magnetic disk, a magnetic tape, etc. having excellent mechanical strength and durability by forming a ferromagnetic metallic thin film, a silicon oxide layer, a fluorosilane layer, and further a lubricating layer in said order on a flexible substrate. CONSTITUTION:A ferromagnetic metallic thin film 2 of CoCr, CoNi, etc. is formed on a flexible substrate 1 of a polyester film, etc. A layer 3 of SiOx (1<=x<=2) is formed on the film 2 in the thickness range 10-1,000Angstrom , and a surface treating layer 4 consisting of fluorosilane as shown by (CnF2n+1)mSi(R)4-m, where (n) is 1-30 and (m) is 1-3, is formed on the layer 3 by coating. A solid layer 5 of a lubricating oil such as fatty acid, metallic soap, silicone oil, fluorosilicone oil, etc. and MoS, etc. is finally formed on the layer 4. A magnetic recording medium wherein the bonding strength between each layer is high, which is hardly damaged by the sliding contact with a head, and having excellent durability is obtained. |
