The buckling or bending lines occurring in a passenger car in the event of an accident are deliberately predetermined during the production of passenger cars in that the panel is soft-annealed in a narrow zone along the subsequent buckling or bending lines. The soft annealing is carried out by a device which is of the same design as a known resistance-welding machine. The current of this machine is set so low that the panel merely glows under the electrodes. <IMAGE>
