A pressure-medium-actuated clamping cylinder is constructed in such a way that a safety cut-off means comes into effect if the clamping jaw strikes an obstacle. Here, the clamping jaw does not require a feeler pin for the obstacle, but the counterforce acting on the clamping jaw and caused by the obstacle brings about the activation of the safety cut-off means in the clamping cylinder. The latter is composed of a control part and a servo part, which can both be accommodated separately at different locations and only need to be connected to one another via a pressure line. A number of servo parts can be controlled via a corresponding number of lines from a single control part. <IMAGE>
