In the case of a circuit arrangement for monitoring devices for remote-reading or remote-storage of the consumption of material quantities or energies, by means of a meter having a pulse-transmitter contact for emitting a number of pulses proportional to the material or energy quantities flowing through the meter, and having a counting module for storing the counting pulses or passing consumption quantity pulses to a measurement centre, it is provided for an operating-voltage line to be passed as a loop (5a, 5b) through the meter in order to determine and differentiate between the open position and closed position of the pulse-transmitter contact and inadvertent and deliberate interruptions on, and short-circuits between, the operating-voltage lines. The path (5b) of the loop originating from the meter (1) is connected via a switching element (7) to the meter pulse transmitter (4), and a second switching element (8, 12) is provided between this path (5b) of the loop (6b) and the second operating-voltage line. <IMAGE>
