An electrical machine brush commutator arrangement in which the brush includes a plurality of bundles of fibres (MBR) and electrical connections between the bundles, and in which the commutator includes means (PI, PII, PIII etc.) to control the point-of-leave and electrically isolated areas (LI1 etc.) to selectively relieve areas of the brush bundles of load. The brush may be formed of several bundles of carbon fibres arranged as spaced full-width layers which may have different lengths. The commutator isolated areas may be of conductive or non-conductive material, complementing the means to control point-of-leave and reducing the conduction time for brush point-of-leave portions. The commutator may include means, such as apertures, to agitate the brush fibres. <IMAGE> |
