IMPROVED COLD-CURING BONE CEMENT

The bone cement includes a liquid monomer and two distinct sizes of particulate polymer to minimize the amount of heat released in producing a fully formed structure while maintaining suitable mechanical properties. The particulate components are proportioned so that the smaller particles fill the interstices between large particles in the mixture, thereby reducing the amount of monomer required. There is disclosed a method for making this bone cement. The method comprises mixing a polymer powder with liquid monomer and upon thickening of the mixture, admixing granulate. The composition thus produced hardens to form a bone cement structure.
