<p>In order to fold the edge of a stratified plate (30) comprised of a plurality of laminated duromer layers, between which are provided thermoplastic binding layers, the edge is first heated, then folded on a cylindrical surface of a folding machine while the laminated layers slide on each other, and is finally cooled. The folding is carried out by means of a folding plate (12) of which the folding face (16) comprises even towards the folding end a significant folding component which is parallel to the extremity (31) of the edge. As a result a sliding motion is generated between the folding plate (12) and said extremity (31) thereby preventing, owing to the friction forces in presence, a separation of the binding layers during folding. The folding device comprises clamping members (1, 2) having a lower clamping surface of which a cylindrical folding portion is adjacent to a counter pressure planar surface. A slide (9) is movable in parallel to the counter pressure surface and rotationally supports the folding plate (12). Actuation members (19, 26, 27) are used to set in motion the different elements of the folding device.</p> |
