A high loading capacity and optimum use of space is achieved in a transportable collecting container (10) for the intermediate storage of refuse from a refuse collecting vehicle in that the surface area of the floor (12) is enlarged during loading, so that the refuse collecting vehicle can enter the collecting container (10). In order to facilitate entry and exit into or out of the container for the collecting vehicle on the one hand and to design the container in such a way that it can also be quickly and easily emptied once again on the other hand, the container's (10) shorter side wall (20) which is to be opened for these purposes is mounted so as to be rotatable about different axes. <IMAGE>
