The operating modes of a series of subscriber terminals are displayed on the monitor of a terminal along with the telephone number or the name of the terminal connection owner, the subscriber terminals concerned being characterised in a preliminary stage through the input of the corresponding telephone numbers in the central status memory of the telecommunications switching system. When corresponding keys are actuated, the information is displayed on the monitor, arranged in alphabetical order or by telephone numbers.
