In an over-transport device on a sewing machine, an up-and-down movement directed perpendicularly to a needle plate (85) of the sewing machine (1) is imparted to a feed press foot (31) and to a holding press foot (38), cooperating alternately with the latter, by means of a gear and a triangular lever (47) coupled to the latter via an oscillating drive. In order, for different thicknesses of the workpieces, to achieve constant conditions of movement, that is to say constant change-over times and constant stroke heights, the oscillating drive has a slide which is coupled to the triangular lever (47) via a sliding guide which is parallel to the direction of movement of the press feet (31, 38). <IMAGE>
