Comminuting machines through which gas flows and which are fed with charging material via a double-door feed, experience, during discontinuous feeding, impact loads which require the mill drive to be designed to be stronger than would be required with continuous feeding. By means of the device according to the invention, the charging of the charging material is homogenised by repeated deflection of the charging material in the material-charging shaft out of its direct dropping direction. The deflection is effected by installations (5), which change the direction of drop, in the material-charging shaft (3) of the comminuting machine (4) and/or by means of the zigzag-shaped course of the material-charging shaft. <IMAGE>
