The present invention is aimed at a process and a device for implementing the process in connection with self-propelled vibrating plate compactors to which a vibration-generating motion is imparted by means of contra-rotating eccentric elements driven by an internal combustion engine. The process consists of causing the compactor to stop by means of a pivoted dead-man's handle mounted on the compactor but without causing the internal combustion engine to stop. The process is realized by means of the dead-man's handle (5) which is connected to the fuel control (7) of the engine, a centrifugal clutch arranged between the engine (2) and the eccentric elements which does not engage until a certain engine speed is attained, and by a cam (10) and a stop interacting with it which limit the swinging of the dead-man's handle (5) to a position corresponding to the idling speed of the engine. |
