PURPOSE:To automatically assemble a C-shaped retaining ring by a simplified sequence control, by providing a cylinder mechanism as the driving means for holding the C-shaped retaining ring spreading or contracting its contour. CONSTITUTION:Two spring-out restricting members 25 are arranged in the peripheral position of a C-shaped retaining ring 1 spreading its contour in a predetermined contour spread condition further in the position with a predetermined space in the peripheral direction from a barrel part center of the C-shaped retaining ring 1. While a wedge member 26, for holding cooperatively with the spring-out restricting member 25 the C-shaped retaining ring in the predetermined contour spread condition, is provided so as to be press fitted in a gap formed between both opening ends 1a of the C-shaped retaining ring. Further a holding device provides a sliding member 27 so as to integrally secure the wedge member 26 while a guide holding member 29 so as to slidably hold the sliding member 27 to be guided. A cylinder mechanism 30, sliding the sliding member 27 to be driven, is provided so as to bring the wedge member 26 into and out from the gap 1c of the C-shaped retaining ring. |
