PURPOSE:To improve the correcting capability by making the processing method of an error flag different depending whether the error location obtained from a syndrome corresponds to any of two words having ''1'' level of error flag or does not correspond to any word. CONSTITUTION:When the number of error flags in a sub block is 2 and both syndromes SPY, SQY are other than ''0'', the two words having ''1'' level of error flags are corrected by the SPY, SQY. When the location of error obtained by the SPY, SQY corresponds to any of the two words having ''1'' level of the error flags, all the error flags follow to the next X direction error detection result or all the error flags are reset, and when the location does not correspond to any word, the error flag of the corrected two words is set and the error flag of the other word follows the next X direction error detection result. |
