An optical fibre light transmission highway constructed to facilitate tapping of light from a fibre 1 without removing the fibre from its protective sheath 2, comprising a conventional optical fibre which in accordance with one embodiment of the invention is embraced by an outer jacket extruded to surround the fibre and containing a region 4 such as a strip of optically transparent high refractive index material which facilitates light collection through an external detector 5 at a region of fibre deformation, or which in accordance with an alternative embodiment of the invention is contiguously associated with a light collection fibre contained within a protective outer sheath. <IMAGE> |
